He worked first as a bookkeeper, than as secretary to the president and finally as a salesman, traveling throughout coal mining territory. Agee married Minnie Elizabeth Francis of Bluefield in 1938 and they purchased "Millview," in Cumberland County, formerly the nineteenth-century home of Dr. James Madison Blanton, Virginia's second Commissioner of Agriculture. Leaving the hardware business, Louis Agee became a full-time dairy farmer and served on the board of the Richmond Cooperative Milk Producers Association. He compiled a revision of Dr. Purl M. Agee's "The Agee Family" and served as National Registrar of the Huguenot Society of the Founders of Manakin in the Colony of Virginia. He died 18 February 1982 in Farmville, Va.
